Bigg Boss 11: A look at how Salman Khan’s show thrashed the competition in the late night space

Colors has a lot to cheer about in 2017 in the reality show space. After a period of considerable lull in 2016, when their non-fiction shows like India Banega Maanch, India’s Got Talent, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and Khatron Ke Khiladi failed to generate expected curiosity, 2017 was a different tale altogether. Khatron Ke Khiladi 8 got off to a flying start courtesy the return of Rohit Shetty and a starry lineup of contestants who played really hard and continues to be a topper on the urban charts. They have repeated the success with Bigg Boss 11. The weekdays shows are in top 20 consistently while the Weekend Ka Vaar episodes have cracked the top 10 more often than not. Here is a look at five viewership highlights of this year…

Amazing start
The inaugural episode got a viewership of more than six million (6.3) impressions viewership, which was seven percent higher than that of the first episode in 2016, which was at 5.9 million. It was the highest for any non-fiction show in the year. It automatically made it to the top five on the BARC Urban GEC shows chart. Since then, it is consistently in the top 10, the maximum slide has been to the 12th spot. This is brilliant improvement from last year. Solid performance on weekdays
The weekday episodes of Bigg Boss 11 have defeated late night shows like Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara, Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai and Dil Dhoondta Hai by a huge margin. The viewership is more than four million impressions on most occasions. The weekday episodes are at par with shows like Naamkarann, Dil Se Dil Tak and Shani on some weeks. As per Exchange4media.com, this is 30 per cent more than last year. The statistics are quite phenomenal. Social media craze
It is seen that shows that fare nicely on social media are often duds on BARC charts but Bigg Boss 11 has deflated that notion. We have seen contestants trending and how! Shilpa Shinde leads the pack with one million tweets in her name. Hina Khan, Vikas Gupta, Luv Tyagi, Arshi Khan and even Puneesh Sharma created a stir online. It speaks volumes about the show and its craze.
